MEET THE LEADER

It will take place in the Small Hall at Chelsea Town Hall, King's Road, SW3 commencing at 6.30. For full details see attached notice.

PUBLIC INQUIRY VICTORY

All of the appeals considered at the Former Jamahiriya School Public Inquiry were dismissed by the Inspector. The Inspector rejected every aspect of the appellants case, save for one, relating to the proposed access to the site. This decision is welcome news for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea whose Officers will be reassured that they were fully justified in refusing development proposals that they considered against their planning policies for the site and completely unacceptable. It was especially gratifying for the Society that the Inspector agreed with all of the arguments that it put forward at the Inquiry.

There will be full reports about the Inquiry and the implications of the Inspector's decision in the next edition of the Society's Newsletter which is due to be published and put on this web site in October.

Proposals for Sloane Square

There are alternative proposals for improvements to Sloane Square currently being prepared; one set of proposals by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and another by the Save Sloane Square Group. Both proposals will be the subject of a public consultation excercise that is due to take place shortly.

It has been reported in the Press that The Chelsea Society supports the proposals of the Royal Borough; this is not correct; the Society will consider whether or not to support either set of proposals after it has viewed them during the period for public consultation.
